Savvy Shopping

Have you ever thought to yourself, ”Wait, I spent how much on groceries this month?!” Obviously, we all like to splurge on a night out here and there, but one way to rein in that spending is to find the best option and price for your grocery store staples. For example, my weekly staples typically include:

  1. Whole wheat bread

  2. Frozen veggie burgers

  3. Pre-popped popcorn

  4. Tortilla chips

  5. Whole grain cereal

  6. Hummus

  7. Soy-milk

  8. Canned corn (1)

  9. Canned beans (2)

Recently, to make sure I was getting the most out of my grocery budget, I went to a few stores in person and online to compare the prices of my must haves. Here is how the above items added up:

  • ALDI: $17.03

  • Wal-Mart: $20.58

  • Trader Joe's: $23.80

  • Amazon Pantry: $33.58

  • Target: $34.07

Consensus:

  • Most expensive: Target

  • Least expensive: ALDI

*Remember, different stores run different sales/promotions at times- shopping ads in the mail may help also!*

So shop around next time you need groceries, you may just find yourself with some unexpected savings, and a little extra room in your monthly budget!
