Happy RDN Day!

Happy RDN Day!  Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) day fell on March 13th this year and we wanted to take this opportunity to talk a little about what makes RDNs different from other nutrition professionals, and celebrate our dietitians here at Lemond Nutrition.

Nutritionist vs. Registered Dietitian Nutritionist – What’s the Difference?

The similarity in titles can be confusing, but to put it simply, there is an important difference between Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs) and nutritionists.  Necessary along the road to becoming an RDN is rigorous coursework through an accredited dietetics program, an internship with over 1,000 hours of supervised practice, and a national registration exam.  Once the exam is passed, we have continuing education requirements in order to stay up to date on developing research.  The title “nutritionist” on the other hand is actually not regulated, which means that anyone could call themselves a nutritionist!

RDNs are the resident experts on the relationship between food and health.  We sift through the myriad of information (and misinformation!) out there and communicate the science in a way that makes sense and meets your individual needs. Whether you are seeking to manage diabetes, recover from an eating disorder, navigate a new Celiac disease diagnosis, or improve your athletic performance, your dietitian can customize recommendations to meet your unique set of needs and goals.

Same but Different

At Lemond Nutrition, there are several things that are the same across the board that we think are important.  Every practitioner is an RDN and makes evidence-based recommendations. We all have a heart to help others and we genuinely love what we do. Each of our dietitians wants to help you maximize health while also fostering a healthy relationship with food.  But one of our favorite things is that each of our dietitians does things a little bit differently!  Each dietitian has a different specialty, passion, and approach. We love that because it allows for the best match between you and your dietitian.  Check out the “about us” tab on our website to learn more about each of our dietitians and find out who might be the best fit for you.  We can’t wait to work with you!
