Charanya Sundar, MS, RDN, LD

You might have heard that the treatment for obesity and obesity-related chronic diseases is to “eat less and exercise more”. Charanya does not agree with that and understands that these are multi-faceted diseases that need to have an equally multi-faceted treatment. This includes behavioral and environmental changes, along with a variety of other factors that affect our health. She believes that understanding the underlying mechanisms of obesity and chronic diseases including diabetes, cancer and heart disease, is important for delivering the most effective nutrition counseling.

Charanya graduated with a Bachelors in Neuroscience from Johns Hopkins University and a Masters Degree in Nutritional Sciences from University of Illinois at Chicago. She completed her dietetic internship at Auburn University. Although she completed her coursework, her education continues as she remains actively involved in Type 2 Diabetes research.

Charanya’s professional experience includes working with obesity and obesity-related chronic disease management as a bariatric outpatient dietitian, nutritionist at a childhood obesity prevention program, personal trainer/boot camp instructor, as well as a health coach for adolescents. Through her various experiences of working with diabetes related disease states, Charanya has a passion for diabetes management and is actively working towards becoming a Certified Diabetes Educator.

Charanya loves to teach and empower her clients to select and cook delicious nutrient dense foods - and show that this journey can be incredibly fun and enjoyable! She also loves experimenting in the kitchen and staying physically active. She has completed several Tough Mudder obstacle courses, 15k’s and various fitness competitions.

Charanya is originally from Maryland and moved to Plano, Texas in 2016 with her fiancé.
